Biography

Katerina Novikova was born and raised in Leningrad in a theatrical family. She is a graduate of the Saint Petersburg Academy of Theatre Arts, where she defended her dissertation on the topic: “The Dramaturgy of Sam Shepard and Certain Problems of Postmodern Aesthetics.”

She studied acting and theatre studies in the United States at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center, and in France completed a program on “Cultural Finance and Economics” at the University of Paris Dauphine. She spent nine months in Japan studying the Japanese language in a course organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. She also completed a cultural management program run by the Sibelius Academy in Finland, and interned in the press office of the Edinburgh Festival.

She worked for several years as deputy director of the clown-mime theatre “Litsedei”. From 1997 to 2000, she served as the first-ever press secretary of the Mariinsky Theatre. From 2001 to 2025, she was press secretary of the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

Since April 2025, she has been Head of the Music Programs Department the Kultura TV Channel

She is the host of cinema broadcasts of Bolshoi Theatre ballets, as well as televised events for World Ballet Day and World Opera Day. She is also the author and host of the interview series “The Green Drawing Room” on the Bolshoi Theatre’s official channel.

She holds the title of Officer of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
